Students-Please make sure that you have turned in all paperwork with Ms. Johnson-Looney and have received her approval BEFORE you complete your community service hours!

If you have any questions to please email Mrs. Johnson-Looney at  laquita.johnson-looney@polk-fl.net. She will be checking her email periodically over the summer.

Why do community service hours?

Students-Please make sure that you have turned in all paperwork with Ms. Johnson-Looney and have received her approval BEFORE you complete your community service hours!

  • Character development
  • College Applications
  • Club Memberships
  • To earn high school credit
    • 75 hours = .50 credit
    • 150 hours = 1.00 credit
  • Graduation Honors
    • 100 hours earns a silver pin
    • 250 hours earns silver honors (cords and a medallion)
  • Scholarships
  • Florida Bright Futures
  • Silver Garland Awards
  • Various

Look for Places to Volunteer

When possible look for places that relate to your career path.

Approved hours:

  • Any non-profit organizations
  • Public schools
  • Chamber of Commerce
  • Nursing homes, hospitals, non-profit clinics
  • Libraries
  • Animal shelters
  • Sunshine Foundation Dream Village
  • Churches(cannot be related to worship or evangelism)

Hours Not Approved:

  • Service performed for pay
  • Hours completed during school hours
  • Hours required by a class, court etc.
  • Hours through church related to worship or evangelism)
  • Doctors/Veterinarians offices
  • Babysitting
